Flying racecar competition in Nagato

I entered this competition looking for new challenging idea’s. After reading the brief, I came to the idea of making a render of a Japanese inspired race.

But which look will I use? Which feeling want I to give my design? In which world will the race take place? All questions that where not yet answered. So, I started to look up reference images that could inspire me. My attention was directly drawn on some glass urban buildings. Also, I was appealed by the typical Asian Kei Cars. A few years ago, I went to Japan on holiday.

They really stood out in the cities. Because I really like the futuristic and cartoonish character of these Kei cars, it was no hard choice of modelling ‘my cars’ after the Kei cars.

In the end the picture was screaming for typical Japanese landmarks. And what would fit better than a Shinto gate as finish and some cherry blossoms in the street?

This is the finished picture. A flying car race with Japanese hints in a modern setting.
