Cape Town City Hall

My name is Gerhard and I live in Cape Town, South Africa.

I've always been very interested in the history of Cape Town, as well as the architecture. There are many beautiful and historical buildings to choose from, but one that always stood out for me is Cape Town City Hall.

Built in 1905, in the Victorian architectural style, for me this building always evokes images of 19th century London. When I heard about this competition, this building immediately sprang to mind as the subject and I wanted the environment to reflect the Victorian setting I imagined.

It's currently home to the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, which often performed there before Covid, and will hopefully resume once this pandemic is under control. It also hosts conventions and theater productions on occasion. Even on a regular, uneventful day, it's worth a visit because of it's spectacular architecture and design.
