Farewell Dusty – a tribute to ZZ Top

In all my years of of 3d modeling I never modeled a car – so I took this challenge as a chance to complete this task.

Inspired by one of my favorite bands, I decided to model the „Eliminator car“ which appeared in a few videos turning on MTV in the 80th. It‘s a Hot Rod based on a 1933 Ford coupe which was build for Billy Gibbons.

Already in the beginning of the modeling I thought it wouldnt be much more work to add the shuttle version of the Eliminator (the one from the Afterburner album) – it ended with two and a half car.

All models and assets build in blender during this challenge, I used a lot of procedural textures and some image textures for the desert and rock grounds. The logo on the cars was made with Inkscape, some retouches and finalisation done with Gimp and Darktable.

I had a lot of fun and learned some things.
