Museum of Bavarian History, Regensburg, Germany

WIP
When it came to picking an architectural object to portray for this challenge, the choice of place was easy for me: It had to be something from Regensburg, the small ancient town in Bavaria where I hail from. Its cuddly enchanting oldtown was always very dear to me and is still today. There are lots of landmarks I could choose from: The cathedral, the Old Stone Bridge, the Roman portals ... But in the end I settled for Regensburgs newest and by far most controversial landmark: The Museum of Bavarian History. Opened in 2019 right in front of the place where once Roman walls marked the city's border, it grabs the viewer's attention for sure, whether they arrive from inside the oldtown or by ship on the river Danube. On the outside the museum may look harsh and intimidating, but inside you can go on an entertaining journey through Bavaria's political history from the early 19th century till today. Now, what to think of this building, you may ask? Is it threatening the ancient buildings right beside it? I think not. Though I can relate in parts with the controversial arguments, this thing is now here and it's here to stay. It's an integral part of Regensburg's more than thousand years old history, and that's nothing to be ashamed of.
