Hi everyone! We continue series of short interviews with the best artists from 3DModels competitions.

Daniel Yanuario, author of the « Nostalgia », will answer six questions and give us a look behind the scenes of his work.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do and how did you become a 3D artist?

I’m an Architect by profession but currently do freelance work as a general 3D modeller. I started out with CAD and Sketchup before during my university days and I really liked making 3D renderings, visualizations and all of that.

During covid, I got stuck at home with no job and got nothing to do so I took up Blender as a hobby and over the course of the pandemic I eventually got good at it and started earning from it through freelancing.

Where did you find the inspiration for your latest challenge entry? What’s the story behind its creation?

Let’s just say I was in a rough patch in life at the time and was reminiscing about the past when things were simpler and happier. I was thinking, like wouldn’t it be nice to go back in time and relive your past memories? So I made a rendering out of it.

What software and plug-ins did you use to create this image? Did you face any difficulties, and how did you overcome them?

I mostly used Blender for this and a bit of Photoshop just for color adjustments. My difficulties were more on my motivation to actually finish the work. I like to start a lot of projects but end up not finishing them out of laziness.

In fact the car model I featured was a personal project I started a long time ago in an effort to learn 3D modelling but I wasn’t able to finish it until I saw the opportunity to finally make something out of it when I decided to join the car render challenge.

How often do you do personal projects and keep your portfolio up-to-date? Which one is your favorite?

I used to do quite a lot of personal projects back when I was still learning the software, however I don’t do It as much anymore due to not having enough time lately. As for my portfolio, I don’t have a lot to put in there as I still have yet to finish all the projects I have started.

Out of all the works I’ve done, this is my favorite; as I have put effort and much of my personality into this set of artwork.

Who or what has inspired or delighted you recently? Maybe it was a book, a movie, or an artist.

I guess it’s my online friends whom I play games with who encourage me to do the things I normally don’t have the motivation to do.

Please tell us your five short tips for creating 3D art.

  1. – Don’t be lazy haha. Try to find motivation for creating art.

  2. – Be patient. Art isn’t something you do in a day.

  3. – Work efficiently. Get the most out of doing little.

  4. – Practice discipline. This is something I’m working on as well.

  5. – Have fun. Stop worrying about the outcome too much and just enjoy the process.
