Vaclav Dunne had gone out into the Wildlands again. Far from the protection the palace’s walls gently offered, but he was not afraid, as he trusted his vehicle. The SDUC (Self Driving Unipersonal Carriage) proved its resilience a long time ago, as its predecessor was utilized to transport VIP in and out of warzones in the Great Conquest. In battle, its rear wheel provided exceptional speed and mobility, and would often have small blasters mounted on the front. Once the war was over, the design was adapted to serve as a luxury vehicle, and was the preferred mean of transportation amongst the nobility.

The war had supposedly wiped out every N’ukkám off the planet, but the Wildlands had never been explored. There was simply nothing there worth exploring, according to the Resources Council. Due to this fact, the rocky lands south of The City were shrouded in mystery, with many believing N’ukkáms to still live there, having retreated after the war.

Vaclav Dunne would often take small trips to these regions, purely out of curiosity. Personally, he even doubted the N’ukkám had really existed in the first place, as they had erased every last trace of them many decades ago. There was also something about the rocks, the grass and the dense fog that filled him with questions. Questions about the geology, the vegetation, the history of the planet, its animals, its evolution. He wondered about the infinite chain of events that led him to this exact place and time, of which he only knew a small fragment.

He asked, to no reply. He then realized he had lost something. He asked the sky, the clouds, the sun, the droplets of water suspended in the air. He asked the grass, the moss, the little patches of fertile soil. He asked the rocks, but they never answered.

  1. Totally unusable design. Wheel in the back is either disconnected or on the right side with only a tiny wheel on the left holding up all the weight of the construct. Quote « its rear wheel provided exceptional speed and mobility » yeah but that tiny wheel in the front on that terrain would get stuck within 20 feet making the ridiculously large rear wheel useless. You need to take a basic course in Engineering/Mechanics. Just some honest criticism.

  2. Classic sci-fi-Spel art! Great work Herman.

  3. Very unique!
