I truly adore pre-war cars and wanted to make one of them for a long time. I chose this contest to make one of the biggest of them all, the Fiat S76 a.k.a. The Beast of Turin.
The name says it all... Built in 1911 it had a 28.4L engine with 4 cylinders producing 290hp and can reach 213km/h (132mph)...
Because it was built specifically for land speed record-breaking it can be seen only on race tracks or in museums so it's hard to put its size into perspective. That's why I decided to place this Italian "beauty" into a narrow Italian street even though it's obviously very far from street-legal :)
Personally, I knew I had to make something other, than my everyday routine. Recently I only had fairly boring projects to work on, so this contest brought some creativity, and fun to my evenings.
I did all the modeling, lighting, texturing, and rendering in Modo 15.1. I used a lot of procedural textures and its new native render engine the mPath. Vegetation and the 3 characters are added, but all the other items on the screen were poly modeled from scratch.
Postwork was done in Photoshop.
